Seeing that Barnes and Noble dropped the price of AMERICAN GODS 10th Anniversary Edition to $1.99, Amazon has just matched it for the Kindle. I don’t know how long it’ll be that price for, probably another 6 hours.
Here’s the link to the $1.99 (93% off) Amazon Kindle edition.
I absolutely recommend getting one. I’m the kind of person who always has to bring books with me everywhere, and having a Kindle is so much more convenient. I go to New York pretty often, and it’s way easier to take my Kindle on the train than lugging a bunch of books. And, if I’m away somewhere and finish my book, I can buy another one at the press of a button! I still buy/read regular books and I’ll never stop. I mostly use the Kindle when I go away and when I want to buy a book right then. (For example: Last time I was on the train home from NYC, I finished my book and asked for recommendations for a quick read for the trip home. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief was the suggestion, so I read that whole series on my Kindle and have started the Heroes of Olympus series on my Kindle as well.) A few of my friends that recently got e-readers have started reading a lot more because it’s just so much easier to bring everywhere. Anyway, getting a Kindle doesn’t mean you have to use it exclusively and stop reading/enjoying regular books. It’s just an added convenience.
40% of the pleasure derived from reading is smelling that good book smell. You know the smell. Whether the book is new or old, it just smells like literature. And turning pages and choosing books or buying certain editions just because the cover is pretty. Come on people, don’t make books obsolete, because if you do, I will have to smash computer servers all over the globe. And reading on an electronic item is just…distracting.
I got a Kindle for Christmas. I think I’ve read two books on it. I love “real” books too much to part with them. I don’t find reading on it distracting, but I agree with everything else.
I AM SO EXCITED.
